Rules of Nonprofit Lobbying

Museums can engage in advocating for themselves. In fact, educating legislators and regulators about issues affecting your museum is not prohibited by law, and is encouraged by the very legislators who represent your museum.  For the ultimate primer on the dos-and-don’ts of engaging in nonprofit advocacy and lobbying, see “Nonprofits and Government: What You Can and Can’t Do” by AAM’s former long-time Director of Government & Media Relations, Jason Hall.
