AAM Action Alert: SAVE THE DATE for Museums Advocacy Day 2011!
Save the Date! Museums Advocacy Day 2011 will take place in Washington, DC on February 28 and March 1, 2011 and the entire museum field is invited to participate!
Museum advocates and professionals from across the nation will convene in Washington, DC, to learn more about the issues, hear from the experts, and learn how to effectively communicate with elected officials. The next day, participants will make scheduled visits to Capitol Hill, arranged by AAM. The museum field will also honor several Members of Congress at a Congressional reception, where advocates will have an opportunity to network with other museum professionals, Hill staff, and Members of Congress.
Museums Advocacy Day Training and Events Include:
- Hearing from Capitol Hill and policy experts about the 2011 political landscape
- Detailed briefings on issues affecting the field and specific “asks” to share with Members of Congress
- Getting strategies for meeting with elected officials and the stats you need to make your case
- Learning how to participate in “year-round” advocacy and engaging elected officials in the ongoing work of your museum
- Networking with museum advocates and professionals from your state
- Attending an evening reception and Congressional Kick-Off Breakfast with Members of Congress and staff invited
"Advocacy is not a job that 'someone else' will do," said AAM President Ford W. Bell. "It is up to each of us to educate our elected officials about all the ways in which museums are essential. Museums Advocacy Day is a unique opportunity for museums of all types and sizes to bring a unified message to Capitol Hill, and I hope to see our field well-represented by museum professionals, supporters, students, and trustees from across the country.”
