Congress has returned to Washington, DC with a full legislative plate this fall, including healthcare reform and FY10 appropriations for federal programs, including funding for the Office of Museum Services at the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and the pending reauthorization of IMLS, expected to be taken up for consideration anytime this fall.

AAM’s Online Advocacy Training Series is designed to help museum professionals, students, volunteers and trustees understand what advocacy is and why it matters, how the legislative process works, and how and when to get involved in making the case for museums.

Topics for Thursday’s program include:

  • What is advocacy and why it is important?
  • Various forms of advocacy
  • How an idea becomes a bill, and how a bill becomes a law
  • Advocating to city hall and the state legislature
  • How to approach an elected official
  • How and when to follow up
  • How to frame your “ask”

Register today here. We hope to “see” you there!
