Museums Advocacy Day 2012:
February 27-28, 2012 in Washington, DC

What is Museums Advocacy Day?

  • Museums Advocacy Day is your chance to stand side by side with fellow advocates from your state and congressional district.
  • Museums Advocacy Day is your chance to get valuable information about how to effectively engage with your representatives and make the case for museums.
  • Museums Advocacy Day is your chance to share a powerful message with your Members of Congress and their staff members on Capitol Hill about policy issues affecting the museum field, and the ways your museum impacts your community.

Please join us if you'd like to:

  • Hear from Capitol Hill and policy experts about the 2012 political landscape
  • Learn about issues affecting the field and specific "asks" to share with Members of Congress
  • Learn strategies for meeting with elected officials and the stats you need to make your case
  • Learn how to participate in "year-round" advocacy and engaging elected officials in the ongoing work of your museum
  • Network with museum advocates and professionals from your state
  • Attend an evening reception and Congressional Kick-Off Breakfast with Members of Congress and staff

Should I participate?
Yes! The entire museum field is welcome to participate: staff, volunteers, trustees, students, even museum enthusiasts. Whether you are a seasoned advocate, or brand new to the process, Museums Advocacy Day is a unique opportunity to network with museum professionals from your state, hear from political and agency insiders about the current political climate, and meet with the Congressional offices that represent your museum.

In short, Museums Advocacy Day is your chance to join with advocates and colleagues from around the country and Speak Up for Museums!
